The EPA recently recognized MetLife for its work in publicly reporting on, verifying, and setting goals to aggressively reduce greenhouse gas emissions. MetLife won a Climate Leadership Award for Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management, which highlights its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in 2016 through at least 2018.

To achieve carbon neutrality, MetLife plans on a wide range of carbon reduction actions, including:
Capital improvement projects and facility upgrades, for example replacing boilers
Increasing energy efficiency through incorporating best practices into offices, for example LED lighting
Consolidating office space
Reducing business travel through increased use of technology
Investing in carbon offsets

While the award highlights the current and future work, MetLife has an established history of reducing its impact on climate. The company first set an emission reduction goal in 2005 of reducing indirect emissions for its U.S. offices by 20% by 2010, which it achieved one year early.

The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) recently published its 2015 Sustainability Report, which includes an industry-level materiality analysis—one of the first of this kind—performed by Framework LLC.

A Sustainable Brands article describes the process Framework utilized to successfully execute an assessment with such a wide scope:
Framework LLC followed a process developed specifically for industry-level evaluation. It began with the creation of a value chain map for the industry and a comprehensive list of potentially material issues as a basis for analysis. A representative sample of ACI member companies was surveyed and interviewed, and documents from the industry and external stakeholders (including NGOs and government agencies) were evaluated for each stage of the value chain to determine the level of stakeholder concern for each issue. Equal representation was given to all identified… More >
